We Gotham Girls were lucky enough to take part in a photo shoot with the fabulous Samantha Bolton and we want to brag about it. A local New York photographer, Sam is a long time friend and photo guru.
We are part of her most recent series. It's a live doll tea party narrative. Beautiful photos on the surface with spooky commentary underneath about female objectification. Take a look see.

Home Outfits & Henna
So I'm home. For the much awaited Spring Break. This means leaving the cold weather for sunny days. Ahhhh..
Hence the "spring" outfit:
I went to San Diego with some friends. We road tripped, laid on the beach together and chatted. It was wonderfully relaxing and food for the soul.
While vacationing we found a henna shop on Mission Beach. I was feeling daring and decided to get henna... on my face. I have to admit I like it, I felt daring and tribal? The reactions to the new face tat have been broad. From, "oh wow that's beautiful" to my dad's new coined phrase, "you've got something on your face". Anyway, it'll wash off in a few days. And strangely, if I ever got a tattoo (which I never ever would) I think I would want it to be on my face..

SPOILS OF SHOPPING: SHOES MOMENT
These are my first Margiela's. So it's an important moment I wish to share with you all. I got them for like $200 at this sketch-tastic empire of creepiness on 1st & 13th. I don't even know what it's called or how to describe it really, it's like this crummy looking store that has all these super discounted designer shoes at the front (probably stolen off the loading dock, idk) and then random dust-covered childrens clothing at the back. I know about it from eating like five cookies a day at Birdbath (they're neighbors). Anyway, I'm always afraid to go in there alone due to the dudes who run it, I.E. two smarmy bastards from Queens who always engage me in uncomfortable conversation. So when my mom was in town last week we stopped by, and she actually found these for me. I'm excited to be werqin these giant clodhoppers into my summer wardrobe, which enevitably devolves into what feels like one too many sundresses. But what can you do in a NYC summer? It's too hot and melty to think or try. I'm hoping these will add an extra dose of sass if ya know what I mean. Anywho, I encourage all my fellow New Yorkers to make the trip to this nameless store and find some Summatime scores of your very own.

Hatz
If you haven't already noticed we, Gotham Girls, are hat fanatics!! Yes, I understand that hats are seemingly a thing of the past - when ladies were expected to wear matching gloves and hats (think the classic Jackie O pillbox combo). Whereas now people only don them in the depths of winter cold. But I find hats at the pinnacle of style expression and also the most challenging item to integrate into an outfit.
So, I would like to take a moment to spotlight NYC's own hat paradise... The Hat Shop. Located on Thompson between Prince and Spring Streets, The Hat Shop is a must stop for anyone traveling through or a local who, dare I say, has never been. I always stop and peek at the beautiful hats and then go to the amazing Greek hole in the wall across the street called SNACK. (they import all their olive oil from Greece yumm)
Here is my favorite hat I've purchased at The Hat Shop. It was a one of a kind made by a local New York milliner. I love buying local small designers, to me it's like buying my fruit at a farmers market.
Anyway, go take an adventure to The Hat Shop. It will be worth your while.
xx

Maison Michel pour Opening Ceremony
I just stumbled across this truly rad drool-inducing collaboration between Maison Michel and Opening Ceremony that I will never be able to afford.
I'm totally obsessed with these hats. I need them. Should I sell a kidney on the black market so I can don Beowulf-esque head gear? I mean, probably, I should. As ridiculous as it may seem, I actually love the medieval reference in the chainmail hat. I think it's somehow totally glamourous and elegant, in a completely unorthodox way. As for the other hats-- I mean who can argue with a precious little straw boater? And the red one is like a Stones groupie meets Godard. The collection may lack cohesion but the hats in all their impeccable quirk and joyfulness, make up for that.
